This will be a quick post about your TaoTao TBR7 dual-sport motorcycle won’t crank in gear, but the motorcycle battery is good, especially since you installed a motorcycle battery tender.
Quick Check: TBR7 Motorcycle Won’t Crank In Gear.
If the bike’s transmission is in Neutral gear, and the motorcycle engine will crank(turn-over). However, the motorcycle engine will NOT crank (turn over) in any other gear(gears 1 through 5)?
This Motorcycle Engine Starting Issue Can Have An Easy Fix.
The motorcycle will only crank the engine when there is no way for the bike to move forward while cranking the engine.
Either the motorcycle must be in neutral, or the clutch is pulled in. BTW older bikes like my 1978 Suzuki GS750 doesn’t have this safety feature, so the bike will crank in gear and no one is holding the clutch. It was a surprise to me.
So for safety, the motorcycle starter motor is not engaged unless there is no way the motorcycle can move forward first.
First Solution: Hold The Clutch Lever In.
If the motorcycle engine now cranks, that was your problem, the bike was protecting you from unsafe motorcycle movements. The TBR7 motorcycle can now be safely started, with clutch held in even when the motorcycle is in gear.
If the bike’s engine only cranks when the transmission is in neutral but not when the bike’s engine is in gear, even with the clutch pulled in, then the motorcycle isn’t sensing the hand clutch lever position.
Second Solution: Fix Clutch Position Switch Wires.
On the top of the TBR7 motorcycle’s clutch lever are two wires.
Often, these wires get disconnected while riding, and Reconnect these two wires to their associated posts.
I’ve pinched the contacts to try and close down on them a little better to prevent them from becoming disconnected on my rides.
Then try again; crank the motorcycle engine while holding the clutch in and the transmission in any gear other than natural.
Did The Motorcycle Engine Crank Or Turn-over?
These steps should solve most problems with the TBR7 motorcycle not cranking while in gear. If you still have problems, contact a motorcycle mechanic, or seek help from one of the online Chonda forums( Need TBR7 help? Upgrade Guides? User Support? We Got You! ) filled with experienced TBR7 owners.

Hi I’m Tom, A New Motorcycle Rider and Blog Author.
I am a new motorcycle rider(Pa Motorcycle Learner’s Permit at the end of 2020, and I received a full M-Class Pa Motorcycle License in 2021, only after passing the Pa Motorcycle Safety Course).
I bought my first motorcycle, a TaoTao TBR7 (A Chinese Dual-sport motorcycle), at the beginning of 2021 and have been doing upgrades on that motorcycle since.
I added to my motorcycle collection by buying a Boom Vader Gen 2 motorcycle in 2022, and that little Grom-Clone bike has been upgraded by me as well.
I continue to ride my Boom Vader Gen 2 motorcycle as well as my TaoTao TBR7 dual-sport bike.

Fun Fact: I’ve only been on one group ride.
