Boom Vader Upgrades

And Upgrades For Your Grom Clone Bike!

I recommend these Boom Vader upgrades (Yes, and for your other Grom Clone Motorcycles) based on my experiences with actually upgrading my Boom Vader ( Boom Vader 125 Upgrades To-Do List. ) and afterward evaluating what Boom Vader upgrades worked and were worth it.

First ride with Boom Vader motorcycle, BD125-10 with 125cc engine in front of field.
My Boom Vader BD125-10 as stock. She needed upgrades.

FYI, my motorcycle upgrades are based on everything I learned online about the Boom Vader, TaoTao Hellcat, and other Chonda Grom Clones that I was able to apply to my motorcycle and review.

If you are a non-Boom Vader owner but an owner of one of its Grom Clone cousins:

  • TaoTao Hellcat
  • IceBear Vader
  • IceBear Vader 2
  • IceBear Fuerza, etc.

Many of these motorcycle upgrades are aftermarket parts and apply to your motorcycle too.

This Boom Vader motorcycle upgrade list will grow with time. I plan to add additional information as I take time to research, upgrade, and review each modification I do to my Boom Vader. Please check back often.

Boom Vader Exhaust System Upgrade
(New Muffler and Exhaust Piping).

I found issues with the internal welds of the stock exhaust system and didn’t like its sound. So I figured I would upgrade my Boom Vader’s exhaust system where I could use a slip-on muffler to bring out a louder, richer sound from my little Grom Clone. It worked. I do like the new sound and feel like it has more power. 😀

A nice thing I noticed, since the new exhaust system created less work on the engine, I had to turn down the idle speed. This engine power is reserved for the twist throttle, not the stock exhaust system’s resistance. Sweet!

Boom Vader Front Sprocket Upgrade (14t -> 17t)

Upgrading my Boom Vader’s front sprocket helped increase the motorcycle’s top speed. I was not impressed with the stock sprocket top speed test ( Stock Boom Vader’s Top Speed Test ). I have a better motorcycle top end now but lost some torque in the process. There will be later upgrades for this Grom Clone, but this sprocket upgrade was easy and well worth it for now. Especially for the cost, it was cheap.

Shipping Oil Upgrade, Change That Clone’s Oil!

Motorcycle Motor oil, Shell Rotella T4 gallon jug.
I run conventional motor oil in my motorcycles till after break-in.

Not a Mod, but important. Nothing will set an online discussion on fire like talking about Chinese bikes and their oil. I don’t want to argue this since I have a strong opinion. I do not know what type of shipping oil is in the Boom Vader, and you don’t know either in your Grom Clone motorcycle. So please change it to something you know, and keep it as cheap and basic as conventional motor oil. I use Shell’s Rotella t4 for the motorcycle’s break-in period and afterward move on to try synthetic motor oil.

Boom Vader Stock Chain Upgrade

New in box Boom Vader motorcycle chain.
My Chain Upgrade for my Boom Vader Motorcycle.

Now never happened to me, but others have complained the stock motorcycle chain that comes with most Grom Clones, Boom Vader included, is not strong enough to handle how we ride our bikes. Especially after all the Boom Vader upgrades, I planned to do. So, learning from others before I make a mistake, I upgraded my stock motorcycle chain to an after-market chain. I went o-ring less since I wanted as much power getting to the rear wheel as possible.

Boom Vader 125cc Carburetor Upgrade

After replacing the stock chain and doing the motorcycle exhaust upgrade, one of the first upgrades recommended is upgrading the Boom Vader’s stock carburetor. First, there is a slight problem with leaking gas from the carburetor. Second, there is no easy way to modify the carburetor jets for the bike’s best performance.

The 125cc engine isn’t a powerhouse, so what little performance gains you get from upgrading the carburetor is felt. For my stock 125cc engine, I chose the VM22 Mikuni carburetor. It came in a simple kit, and with that kit, plus a fuel shut-off, was a simple upgrade to my little Grom-Clone.

Cheap Small Motorcycle Tail Bag

I sometimes go out for hours when I’m out on my Boom Vader. Having a place to stash away drinks and snacks is vital, so I found this cheap small motorcycle tail bag to meet my needs.

The tail bag fits nicely on the Boom Vader motorcycle and includes a silver ‘shower cap’ to keep the bag waterproof in heavy downpours.

Motorcycle USB Cell Phone Charger

I wanted to keep my cell phone charged and power any other motorcycle handlebar accessories, so I installed a USB Cell Phone Charger with two USB ports. Now I can keep my cell phone charged and open to my favorite nav app without worrying about a dead battery.

Motorcycle Battery Trickle Charger

The stock batteries on Cheap Chinese-made motorcycles have a terrible reputation for dying. My TaoTao TBR7 motorcycle still has its stock battery, and I feel this is because I installed a battery trickle charger on it. Now I have one installed on my Boom Vader.

Motorcycle Horn Upgrade

I was looking for the cheapest and best motorcycle horn upgrade. After a few times, my stock little Grom-Clone motorcycle horn failed to catch the attention of a couple of drivers turning in front of me.

My first job was to ensure my safety(reposition, slow down, brake, etc.), but I wanted some audible alert to the bad drivers of their decision and to take steps to avoid hitting me.

So I upgraded my little Boom Vader horn to something much more substantial.
