Boom Vader Motorcycle Won’t Crank In Gear – FAQ

This will be a quick post about your Boom Vader motorcycle(or any general Grom-Clone bike) won’t start, but the battery is good.

If the bike transmission is in Neutral, the motorcycle will crank(turn-over), but the engine will not turn over in any other gear(gears 1 through 4).

This motorcycle starting issue can have an easy fix:

The motorcycle will only crank the engine when there is no way for the bike to move forward while cranking. Either the motorcycle is in neutral, or the clutch is pulled in.

The clutch is pulled in if the motorcycle senses neutral by cranking but is not sensing.

First Solution: Hold The Motorcycle Clutch Lever In.

If the engine now cranks, that was your problem. The Boom Vader motorcycle can now be safely started.

If the engine only cranks when the transmission is in neutral but not when the engine is in gear, even with the clutch pulled in, then the motorcycle isn’t sensing the clutch position.

Second Solution: Fix Clutch Position Switch Wires.

On the top of the Boom Vader’s motorcycle clutch lever is two wire connectors. Often, these wire connectors get disconnected. Reconnecting these two wires to their associated posts can fix the motorcycle starting issue.

Then try again; crank the motorcycle engine while holding the clutch in and the transmission in any gear other than natural.

Did The Engine Crank Or Turn-over?

These steps should solve most problems with the Boom Vader motorcycle not cranking while in gear. If you still have problems, contact a motorcycle mechanic, or seek help from one of the Chonda online clubs filled with experienced Grom-Clone owners.

Just Me…Newly Licensed.

Hi I’m Tom, A New Motorcycle Rider and Blog Author.

I am a new rider(Pa Learners Permit at the end of 2020, and I received a Pa Motorcycle License in 2021 after passing a Motorcycle Safety Course).

I bought my first motorcycle, a TaoTao TBR7, at the beginning of 2021 and have been doing upgrades on that motorcycle since.

I added to my motorcycle collection by buying a Boom Vader Gen 2 in 2022, and that Grom-Clone motorcycle has been upgraded by me as well.

I continue to ride my Boom Vader Gen 2 motorcycle as well as my TaoTao TBR7 dual-sport bike.

Fun Fact: I’ve only been on one group ride.
