The Cycle Gear Store Near Me Rocks!

I have the pleasure of having a Cycle Gear Store near me, right in Allentown, Pa. A little of a drive but always worth it. Let me brag about the latest find I made at Cycle Gear.

Bragging Time, Cycle Gear Stuff On Sale.

I was driving by and figured I would pop into Cycle Gear and see if anything was on sale. Being a new rider, I still don’t have all the riding gear or best riding gear I want. Getting into motorcycles will have my double and triple my clothing wardrobe.

For winter riding, which isn’t much, I have an insulated coat with CE Armor that I upgraded, but it’s kind of dorky looking. I went with neon colors for this item. I won’t go over this coat here; I have a post about it.

So… I was looking for a newer coat, something a little less bright and even more grunge-looking, but could tolerate the weather. Also easy to clean from any road salt that lingers on the roads during winter. Then I found it!

The Cycle Gear Store Near Me Wins Me Over.

I found a discount table of items; actually, I didn’t find it, one of the salespeople pointed it out to me, and I walked in the wrong direction and missed it. I was in the shoe section looking over shoes and riding boots, and the salesperson approached me. He asked, “Can I help you?” Oh No!

Sales People Bother Me, But Not At Cycle Gear.

This salesperson asked if I needed help. My knee-jerk reaction is usually to respond with, “Just browsing.” Which I did, and the salesperson continued to talk to me.

Hmmm…. this is weird.

Usually, salespeople tell me where they will be if I need future help.

This guy asked what size I was in shoes, and I replied, and then in a flash, five boxes were pulled off shelves and laid out in front of me on the floor. I looked and said I was looking for more ankle coverage, and two were gone, and in their place was another box.

I had four boxes on the floor, all open to see the boots inside. I thanked the salesperson and was amazed at his helpfulness without being pushy. What is going on here?

Cycle Gear Salespeople Have Jedi Mind Tricks?

Have I had my mind warped by some advanced sales technique? I had exact-sized items in front of me, I found myself talking with the sales guy, and I was happy I was being helped. This behavior is very unlike me.

Motorcycle Gear Can Be Expensive.

Weird how when I am around expensive items, I freeze up and just ‘window shop’; however, Cycle Gear has some reasonably priced items. Also, they are necessary items for safe motorcycle riding. Their line of Bilt jackets is good quality and comes with decent armor without making you look like a linebacker. I have passed upon buying one of their Bilt helmets, but since they are reasonably priced, and many ECE certified, I might buy a spare.

Back to my point, I typically want to walk around the store alone, unbothered by salespeople, and retract when one talks to me. Not here. I found myself talking with the sales guy, told him I was still a new rider, first year, and didn’t have all the best equipment. He chatted with me and left. I was trying on boots, and he showed up with a box that was beaten up.

Box looked rough, but the motorcycle boots are in good condition.

Don’t Judge A Boot By Its Cover.

I looked at this torn-up box, and the salesperson pulled out a leather boot. It was basic and covered the lower leg, not precisely what I was looking for, but it had features I wanted.

Not bad looking motorcycle riding boots, with basic foot protection.

A boot with a solid sole prevents foot crush if the bike falls on me. Yes, I have fallen in the past. Oil-resistant soles to avoid slipping when stopping at an intersection. Yes, I’ve slipped at intersections. Some ankle/lower-leg coverage with some boot height. Yes, I have hit my lower shin from a dropped bike. Wow, I am accident-prone. :p

Not perfect, mind you, I was looking for some ankle armor. I told the salesperson it wasn’t perfect, and he replied. It’s 1/2 off. Now that got my interest; I figured 1/2 off might be worth continuing my interest. What does half off mean? < $50!!!!

The salesperson said it’s not top of the line, but it’s tough leather, and he wanted to make sure I saw the riding boot before I made a final decision. He said their Street and Steal brand is an entry-level brand but offers good quality items for the price. I replied, “I’m riding with work boots.” He laughed and said, This might be a good upgrade. He was right, and it’s was a GOOD upgrade.

I cleaned up the boxes and put away the boots on their respective shelves, even after the salesperson said he would put them away. The salesperson saved me money and increased my foot protection when I rode. I would probably leave empty-handed, but I had to get these boots he brought me. 1/2 off, good looking(well, for my taste), better protection, I couldn’t pass them up. I almost missed this great offer if not for this guy.

I figured I could at least put away the other boots he pulled out and put on display for me. The other boots were put away, and now it’s time to check out.

Wait, No Up-selling At Cycle Gear?

I checked out, and no one tried to get me to buy more expensive boots. No protection plan? No undercoat rust protection? No pressure sales?

I just paid for my items, and it was done. I thanked the cashier and yelled out to the sales guy a big Thank you.

Was This A Weird Unicorn Event?

Actually no. So far, the Cycle Gear near me is staffed by other motorcycle riders. Often younger and full of energy to talk about motorcycles. They have advice on gear and equipment all the time. When one salesperson doesn’t know the answer to my questions, they admit it and get someone that does now, and no hard sales. No BS! That should be Cycle Gear’s motto, “No BS, Just Motorcycle Stuff!”.

What If I Don’t Have a Cycle Gear Near Me?

I have signed up in the past and gotten electronic coupons. I ordered stuff from Cycle Gear and used their free shipping offers. I ordered a speedometer cable for my TaoTao TBR7 and had it delivered faster than the one I ordered off Amazon. And I ordered from Amazon days before the Cycle Gear one. Previous Post: Motorcycle Speedometer Stopped Working – My Poor TBR7.

So sign up at Cycle Gear, and you, too, stay up to date on coupons and sales.

I added to my motorcycle collection by buying a Boom Vader Gen 2 in 2022, and that Grom-Clone motorcycle has been upgraded by me as well.

I continue to ride my Boom Vader Gen 2 motorcycle as well as my TaoTao TBR7 dual-sport bike.
