Looking For Motorcycles For Sale?

Are we all in the same boat? I am constantly looking for motorcycles for sale in my local area, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. I might go as far as New York for a good used motorcycle, but I haven’t too many that are worth the travel.

So, why am I looking for another motorcycle? If you have to ask, you don’t ride motorcycles. :p But seriously, each motorcycle I own, the TaoTao TBR7 Dual-Sport motorcycle and the Boom VaderGrom-Clone” Motorcycle, have a specific purpose, and both have something in common: they are small.

Small as in their engine displacement, so acceleration, torque, and horsepower are limited. But riding a small bike fast is fun.

So, What Have You Learned From Shopping For Motorcycles?

Used” is a relative term.

No mileage is associated with the ‘used’ label; it’s considered used if it’s not sold directly by a dealer.

As a result, I’ve found bikes with very low mileage sold at a significantly discounted ‘used’ price.

What have you found?

How Many Miles Is A Lot For A Motorcycle?

Speaking of miles and no objective direct relation with the ‘used’ status when talking about low miles, there is the other end of the spectrum.

What Is Considered A Lot Of Miles For A Motorcycle?

TaoTao TBR7 Speedometer and Odometer.
Motorcycle Odometers don’t fully tell story about wear and tear on a bike.

I’ve looked at used motorcycles with very few miles but were in a condition that suggested some hard miles were ridden on the bike.

I’ve seen bikes with many miles ridden, but the bike was in excellent condition.

This higher bike care is typical of the older rider, who uses their bike for Breakfast runs and might do some long road trips in the warmer months.

So the answer to the question is when the miles are ridden hard, and the bike shows it, there are a lot of miles for a motorcycle. How the bike was ridden is the accurate measure.

How Expensive Should A Motorcycle Be?

Well, for me, not expensive. Being expensive means it’s more money than I want to spend on that item. My house cost a lot of money but was not expensive; it was less than I was willing to pay. But again, it was a lot of money.

A motorcycle isn’t as important as having a roof over my head, so my threshold for what is an expensive motorcycle is much lower.

Since motorcycle riding is a hobby, I take the time to look around. If I find a good motorcycle, I still look for similar bikes to compare prices.

For a simple answer, a bike should only be expensive enough to take good care of the bike but not so expensive that it’s overpriced compared to similar motorcycles.

Which Motorcycle Is The Best Motorcycle?

Now, I put this post together based on questions in my head and what I found others were asking when looking to buy a motorcycle. But this question is so subjective that it’s hard to answer so that I won’t answer about a specific bike but your options.

The bike is either the best motorcycle for you or your riding style for that moment.

Moment? Yes, how many people you know own several motorcycles? A motorcycle for how you feel to ride in that moment. Cruiser for cruising, dual-sport for dirt riding and everything in between, dirt bike for tearing up single-tracks, and cafe-racer for getting some espresso.

Where I Look For Motorcycles For Sale, Near Me?

I’ve been searching the typical places:

With so many types of motorcycles, including different makes and models, it’s hard to make apples-to-apples comparisons when I find a motorcycle I like, even a new bike.

This lack of similar options might be why I didn’t buy another bike this year. Just been looking…

Reaching Out To Other Motorcycle Buyers.

What has been your go-to place for getting your next motorcycle? I have a couple of dealers in the area, but I have to admit their floor stock has been low over the last few years.

Where are you looking?

Just Me…Newly Licensed.

Hi I’m Tom, A New Motorcycle Rider and Blog Author.

I am a new rider(Pa Learners Permit at the end of 2020, and I received a Pa Motorcycle License in 2021 after passing a Motorcycle Safety Course).

I bought my first motorcycle, a TaoTao TBR7, at the beginning of 2021 and have been doing upgrades on that motorcycle since.

I added to my motorcycle collection by buying a Boom Vader Gen 2 in 2022, and that Grom-Clone motorcycle has been upgraded by me as well.

I continue to ride my Boom Vader Gen 2 motorcycle as well as my TaoTao TBR7 dual-sport bike.

Fun Fact: I’ve only been on one group ride.
