Where To Buy Good Motorcycle Engine Oil?

I remember a funny exchange during a scene in Avengers: Infinity War, “Where is Gamora?”

Here is why I think this is funny for motorcycle oil because of how I’m writing this post:

  • Why buy good motorcycle engine oil?
  • Where to buy good motorcycle engine oil?
  • When to buy good motorcycle engine oil?

My Conclusion: Where To Buy Good Motorcycle Oil.

Importance Of Using Proper Engine Oil For Motorcycles

Now we know why we use engine oil for our motorcycles and lubrication of the internal parts of the motorcycle engine. Still, there are also critical other roles the motorcycle engine oil services.

The flowing oil caries heated away from contact surfaces and prevent hot spots from forming on your moving surfaces.

Motorcycle engine oil cleans surfaces and holds dirt and wear products in suspension till the following oil change. This action prevents dirt and carbon from building up in your motorcycle engine.

Oil also has additives that neutralize acids and damaging effects moisture causes when it gets into the oil.

Difference Between Motorcycle Engine Oil Vs. Regular Engine Oil.

Now that is just the critical role engine oil serves your motorcycle, but motorcycle engine oil has unique features that regular engine oil doesn’t have.

Since the motorcycle engine and gearbox transmission share the same oil on many motorcycles, motorcycle oil is designed to act as both an engine and gearbox lubricant.

Also, since many motorcycle gearboxes are designed with slip, the clutch plates need oil intended for a wet clutch. So there too are special additives and features motorcycle engine oils have over other engine oil types.

Now Beat That Dead Horse: We know why good motorcycle engine oil is essential, so let’s move on to where to buy this good motorcycle engine oil.

My Experience: Where To Buy Motorcycle Engine Oil?

I’ve only been riding motorcycles for a couple of years. Posted ( Last Day For Pa Motorcycle Safety Course ) me getting my motorcycle license and buying my first motorcycle( Bought My First Motorcycle! ).

However, since then, I’ve put thousands of miles on my two motorcycles: A TaoTao TBR7 Dual-Sport motorcycle and A Boom Vader( A 125cc Chinese Grom Clone Motorcycle).

Also, adding in the multitude of upgrades on both bikes and doing my repairs and maintenance, I’ve decided to cover this topic. I do my work, so I buy and use my shop supplies(tools, upgrades, etc.).

Online Retailers, I’ve Used For Motorcycle Supplies.

Author’s Notice: This page contains affiliate links, for which I may earn a commission by their use. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying Amazon purchases.

1.- Amazon.com

Search Amazon.com For Motorcycle Oil.

Now first, let’s face it, Amazon is the 800-pound gorilla. If it’s sold somewhere, typically, it’s sold on Amazon, and I like Amazon.

If I stop ordering Amazon items, the delivery driver will someday stop by the house to check if I am OK.

Little Amazon fact I found out, much of Amazon’s products aren’t sent by Amazon. Let me explain, Amazon is the portal for sales(online catalog, checkout process, etc.), but some items are purchased by independent sellers and then sent to Amazon to sell through their website.

I say this since many motorcycle supplies, like motorcycle oil, are the same brand and type of motorcycle oil you can pick up off the shelf at your local store.

You are ordering from Amazon often just for convenience.

Now not bashing Amazon; if I can’t find an item locally, I will use Amazon to send a bulk order to my house just because it’s convenient.

2.- Revzilla

I believe now J&P Cycle, Revzilla, and Cycle Gear are all the same company:

https://www.rideapart.com/news/396536/revzilla-cycle-gear-jpcycles-comoto-holdings/

So when I talk about Revzilla, I am talking about their online presence.

When I later talk about Cycle Gear, I will focus on their physical brick-and-mortar presence.

So, Revzilla, who doesn’t like its online videos, produces product reviews and motorcycle stories. I love their work.

The truth is, I Have not used Revzilla’s services, but me covering them simply because they have such a selection of motorcycle oil and other fluids in their online catalog; I had to mention them at least.

Also, since they share their shipping services with Cycle Gear, I do a little spoiler alert and say if they do, their services rock. I will talk more about Cycle Gear next.

3.- Cycle Gear

If I can say that Amazon is my favorite online shopping service, Cycle Gear (CycleGear.com) is my favorite online motorcycle shopping service.

I’ve yet to order motorcycle fluids online from Cycle Gear, but I’ve ordered a helmet(An Icon Airflite Motorcycle Helmet) and motorcycle parts like a replacement speedometer cable( Fixed Motorcycle Speedometer Not Working ).

New Motorcycle Speedometer Cable unopened.

Most items were at the store the next business day. I ordered from Amazon and CycleGear.com simultaneously, and the same thing (My TaoTao TBR7 motorcycle had a broken speedometer cable). The replacement speedometer cable was ready at my local Cycle Gear store long before the Amazon delivery came in.

So I would recommend Cycle Gear for online motorcycle oil purchases.

Local Motorcycle Dealerships

Rather than cover all the local motorcycle dealerships I’ve visited, I will cover some generalizations I can make about them.

Say you are a Honda, do-or-die guy. Or a Harley-Davidson for life, Lady. Etc etc.

If you are a die-hard brand-specific motorcycle owner, your local dealerships are your central point to buying your brand-specific motorcycle oil.

I have a Honda dealership near me. When I was interested in only Honda products, my local dealer had more Honda-specific motorcycle oils and fluids than I would ever come across in any generic motorcycle supply shop.

So if you are brand-specific for your motorcycle oil, then the dealerships are your source for good motorcycle oil.

Auto Parts and Supply Stores.

Now by me, I have Autozones and Advanced Auto Parts.

I don’t recall visiting any O’Reilly Auto Parts stores, but betting they are much like my local AutoZone and Advanced Auto Parts stores.

Keep this again generalized since these stores share similar features: A decent selection of good motorcycle oils and, the best thing, SALES!

Yes. No secret, my favorite motorcycle oil for both my TBR7 and Boom Vader motorcycles are Rotella 15w40 T6 Synthetic Motor Oil( Best TBR7 and Hawk 250 Break-in Oil ).

1 gallon jug of Shell's Rotella T6 Motor oil.
Rotella T6 By The Gallon.

And when I can find a good sale on this good motorcycle oil, I buy it by the gallon. If I have good motorcycle oil at hand in my garage, I’m more likely to change my motorcycle oil when it’s needed.

This thinking has worked for me. I’ve overheated my air-cooled TBR7 motorcycle at least once, riding in stop-and-go traffic (even found metal shavings), and if I used a cheaper oil or changed my oil less often, the bike would have been toast.

Typical Convenience Household Stores

One place the typical American can find themselves buying items for their house is the Walmart and Target stores of this country.

Walmart has cheap oil. A decent selection, but more importantly, they carry Rotella T6 15w40 motor oil.

The problem is Walmart shelves are often empty, so Walmart is not a dependable source for good motorcycle oil, and I’ve never found any sales.

However, Walmart does carry Shell’s Rotella T6 Synthetic Motor oil. Since this is such a good motorcycle oil, if I run across a couple of gallon jugs of oil on the shelf, I grab them for the same reasons mentioned above.

Also, Target’s automotive maintenance is something they don’t care about. Often the section is buried in the middle of the store and limited to at most two small isles. So Target isn’t on my radar for finding any good motorcycle oil.

My Conclusion Where To Buy Good Motorcycle Oil.

First- Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for motorcycle oil.

Second- Good Motorcycle oil is motorcycle oil you have on hand. So, buy good motorcycle oil before you need it.

Third- My order for selecting sources for motorcycle oil.

a.- AutoZone and Advanced Auto Parts Stores (my local auto parts stores).

Both stores carry my favorite motorcycle oil ( TBR7 Oil Type I Need? ), so checking advertisements for sales makes getting a good supply of motorcycle oil ready for the riding season less painful.

FYI: My Nibbi Carburetor Upgrade From AutoZone!

b.- Walmart For Second Source Of Good Motorcycle Oil.

Well, if they have any motorcycle oil in stock. Not unusual to find specific motorcycle oil in 1-quart jugs on the shelves, but finding my gallon jugs of Rotella T6 or even Rotella T4 (Like T6, but a conventional motor oil) is a challenge.

1 gallon jug of Shell Rotella T4 Motor oil.
Shell Rotella T4 Motor oil, a good conventional motorcycle oil I buy.

If I walk through Walmart and need more motorcycle oil, most likely due to Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts not having a sale for a while, I grab a jug of motor oil.

c.- Amazon For Third Source Of Good Motorcycle Oil.

You will pay basic prices, with no typical sales or discounts, but Amazon is an excellent way to get oil to your garage without panicking. No local Auto parts stores or Walmart shelves are empty again.

The Amazon Prime service usually means ordering at least midweek gets oil to your door for any weekend motorcycle maintenance.

d.- Cycle Gear For Fourth Source Of Good Motorcycle Oil.

The nice thing I want to ensure I cover; Cycle Gear’s local stores are usually very well stocked. If not, their delivery service with CycleGear.com is fantastic.

Also, Cycle Gear stores carry motorcycle oils that some people swear by, like Bel-Ray and Motul oils. I’ve listened to friends who race motocross swearing by these oils. If they can stand the abuse of my friends and be ready on the selves to pick up, Cycle Gear is an excellent place to buy motorcycle oil.
