Last Of My Boom Vader’s Performance Upgrades. (For Now!)

Originally the plan was to keep the Boom Vader motorcycle stock as long as possible, mainly for the break-in period. However, as I kept riding the Boom Vader, I felt it needed more and more upgrades. Especially performance upgrades. My stock Boom Vader top speeds at the red line weren’t very impressive ( Stock Boom Vader’s Top Speed Test ), but this improved with the upgrades.

I’ve upgraded the front sprocket of my Boom Vader, a typical upgrade for a Grom Clone. I went from a 14 tooth front sprocket to a 17 tooth front sprocket. I got top speed upgrades doing the front sprocket change, but the bike now has a hard time getting up to max speed (red line on the tachometer). My Boom Vader top speed post after front sprocket change: 17t Upgraded Front Sprocket Boom Vader Top Speed Test.

I’ve upgraded from the stock carburetor to a VM22 Mikuni carburetor. Another typical Grom Clone motorcycle upgrade, but well worth it. The stock carburetor that the Boom Vader came with started leaking. Another specific Grom Clone motorcycle problem. With the new carburetor upgrade, including removing some exhaust parts, the bike started getting some acceleration improvements.

The last step for a performance boost from my Boom Vader motorcycles is a low restriction exhaust.

I made a mod, or improvement, to the stock exhaust ( First Boom Vader 125 (A Grom Clone) Exhaust Mod!) but couldn’t feel a real boost in acceleration. However, doing so got me to jump on the bike for a longer ride, and riding the Boom Vader is fun. 😀

Now I get an update that the drop-in exhaust upgrade is moving, so I’m getting ready for this step, stock exhaust out and new exhaust in. Yippee!

Hour glass marking passing of time.
Time Marches on, but moves slowly when waiting for motorcycle parts in the mail.

Remember, Upgrades Don’t Always Mean Faster Boom Vader. :/

Remember, the top speed of my Boom Vader is limited to what RPM I am at and the gear. Besides changing the front sprocket, I’ve done nothing to change the motorcycle’s chain gearing. So the top speed after the front sprocket change is the same top speed now(@7500+ RPMs), but with faster acceleration getting there.

Also, Not All Performance Upgrades Equal A Faster Motorcycle.

Now don’t get wrong, I am looking forward to any performance upgrade I get to acceleration, but the new exhaust will allow for a pretty attractive slip-on muffler choice.

I hear the muffler I have, still sitting in the box in the corner of my dining room, is a good muffler—low resistance with good sound. I can’t wait.

Just An Exhaust Shipment Update.

I received the new muffler and new exhaust gaskets for this upgrade ( Ordered My Boom Vader Exhaust Upgrade Parts (A Dummy)  ). And I have been waiting patiently, sure, for the last part—the exhaust piping which is coming from China.

Once here, I plan to do the exhaust upgrade ASAP and share with you the outcome. Thanks for checking back, and stay tuned!!!!

Just Me…Newly Licensed.

Hi I’m Tom, A New Motorcycle Rider and Blog Author.

I am a new rider(Pa Learners Permit at the end of 2020, and I received a Pa Motorcycle License in 2021 after passing a Motorcycle Safety Course).

I bought my first motorcycle, a TaoTao TBR7, at the beginning of 2021 and have been doing upgrades on that motorcycle since.

I added to my motorcycle collection by buying a Boom Vader Gen 2 in 2022, and that Grom-Clone motorcycle has been upgraded by me as well.

I continue to ride my Boom Vader Gen 2 motorcycle as well as my TaoTao TBR7 dual-sport bike.

Fun Fact: I’ve only been on one group ride.
